Wendy

Wendy Black-Kostuk is an Interior Designer, Facility Planner, and Fibre Artist whose career began when she graduated from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Interior Design.

She has worked for various architectural and interior design firms, the University of Saskatchewan, the University of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta, for whom she designed and project managed 3 international projects in London, England; Tokyo, Japan; and Hong Kong, China. In her discretionary time, she was indulging her sewing hobby by designing and fabricating garments, wallhangings, & soft sculpture - most of these by commission. Her own business operates in both Edmonton and Saskatoon.

With the acceptance of her fibre art piece, "Rainbow of a Different Contour," into Alberta’s first juried fibre art exhibition, "Fibrations", for the 75th Anniversary Commission, her dual career in fibre art career became fully launched. As well, the Alberta Art Foundation (now called Alberta Foundation For The Arts) purchased another fibre work entitled, "It's A Celebration."

Since then, Wendy has completed many interior design and fibre artworks and participated in 11 group and 2 two-person exhibitions in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Toronto, and has won awards for both her Interior Design work and Fibre artwork.

She has been a member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council, serving on their Board of Directors for 2 years, and is presently a member of the Alberta Craft Council, the International Interior Designer Association, Interior Designers of Alberta, Interior Designers of Saskatchewan, and Interior Designers of Canada. She served on the U of S Senate for 6 years, representing her professional Interior Design organization, IDAS.

Wendy has written many articles and has also taught workshops in both Interior Design and Fibre Art. She continues to design homes, gardens, offices and other commercial interiors, as well as clothing, soft sculpture and accessories for interiors. Being a self-avowed 'textile junkie', she also continues to collect textiles!
